ATTENTION: For residents that need help to control or reduce their real estate taxes, the State of Maryland offers two programs.
Homestead Tax Credit – this is a one-time application the homeowners can make. There is a website to check to see if they have already made the application. This credit is for everyone. https://sdathtc.dat.maryland.gov/
Homeowners Property Tax Credit – this is an annual application that has 4 eligibility requirements a resident must meet to qualify. This is for lower-income households and helps them get a direct reduction on the real estate taxes based on their financial situation http://www.taxcredit.sdat.maryland.gov
Renters Tax Credit Application – this would be for people who rent their home and meet certain eligibility requirements. The credit is up to $1,000 in a direct payment to them.
